While the details of a dream are often forgotten, the feeling remains. Lee draws parallels between this experience and the act of recalling memories, where nostalgia can blur the boundaries between the past and the present, leaving behind a similar sense of uncertainty and disorientation. This idea is explored through a series of textiles developed from a floral motif found within one of his mother’s paintings. The motif originates from a painted curtain featuring overlapping circles that form flowers, which Lee extracts and reinterprets throughout the collection. To capture the hazy quality of dreams and memory, he creates distorted imagery by dragging familiar mementos through a scanner, producing blurred and fragmented compositions that echo the experience of remembering. The collection traces the gradual transformation of the motif across each look. Beginning as a clearly recognisable form, it appears as cut-out detail and digital prints before progressively dissolving into abstract imagery that can no longer be easily identified. Through this process, Lee creates a visual representation of the space between memory and dream, where familiar images become distorted, fragmented, and open to interpretation. Alongside these textiles, tailoring serves as both a personal and conceptual foundation. The collection draws from archival photographs of her painting series, Being (1994), which explored the existential experience of simply being and existing. Many of the original paintings no longer exist, surviving only through a small archive of photographs. As the son of an artist, Lee felt a responsibility to preserve and honour her work by reimagining them through this collection. The collection translates the paintings into printed textiles and tailored silhouettes inspired by the clothing his mother wore to her solo exhibitions. Inspired by accounts of Korean soldiers separated from their families during the Korean War (25 June 1950 – 27 July 1953), the collection reflects on themes of distance, uncertainty, and the enduring hope of return. Drawing from the colours and details of military uniforms, the collection reinterprets military dress through tailoring and print. A screen print derived from the blueprint of a military base serves as a tribute to the Korean soldiers who fought in the war, while also symbolising the places they temporarily called home. &nbsp;L e e Lee is a Korean-Australian designer and graduate of Design in Fashion and Textiles (Honours) from UTS. Growing up as the son of an artist, Lee was exposed to image-making and creative expression from an early age. His mother’s influence continues to inform his approach to fashion, particularly his interest in photography, digital print, and tailoring as forms of visual storytelling. Drawing from family archives, personal mementos, and lived experiences, his practice explores the relationship between image, memory, and dress.
